Groj was conceived and came to being in Montreal. Shortly thereafter he was taken across the Atlantic Ocean and into French borders. He was brought up in the Alps by French parents. At the age of four Groj was given a duckling. It ran around ever so gleefully in his garden on bright sunny days. Groj would spend entire afternoons playing with it, watching it grow and manifest its fluffy and exquisite nature.
One night, when it was minding its own business, gracefully posing with its signature style, it got devoured and ripped to pieces by a stray cat. The next morning, hours went by as Groj ran around the garden frantically in search of his cherished missing little critter. At one point he came past a small carcass delicately placed on an old mossy trunk. He stopped, puzzled, and began to investigate it. His mother came up from behind him and spoke to him in a tender voice: "Your duckling was eaten by the neighbor's cat during the night".
Groj marked a long silence. Sadness was cast into his eyes for the first time in his life. He didn't understand the injustice; he didn't understand why the duckling should perish so rashly, and he, in return, was left untouched. So strong a tension this contradiction formed in his mind that his innocence could not contain it. Like so many of his childhood memories, this one vanished forever behind the sinister gates and citadels of his unconscious mind. Or so it seemed.
At the sprightly age of eighteen, Groj's upbringing had finally come to a standpoint. On the eve of his departure back across the ocean, he grew restless and went for a last saunter in and around his garden. Of all the childhood memories he could have then recovered, only one was set loose. He remembered how once upon a time, he had a duckling, to whom, as a toddler, he devoted his entire afternoons and who shed blood one night as an easy prey to an obnoxious and ruthless feline.
Groj developed an unintelligible rabid desire for revenge ever since he revisited this recollection. At this point in time, he generally channels his fury through electronic music, and also, on occasion, by re-enacting entire scenes of epic warfare in his living room while no one is watching. He currently lives with three cats which he tames and cares for and learns to accept. Groj doesn't remember the duckling's name anymore, but one day, it will come back to him.
