At 23, Paul R. traces his connection to music 14 years ago. His father owned 10,000 vinyls - including many prog rock records - and a Technics SL-1200. Since that first contact with music, Paul R has been around the world, visiting many countries in Asia and the Middle-East, including Thailand, Indonesia, New Zealand, Jordania, Bahrein and Dubai. Paul also spent 5 years in Africa, 4 years in Singapore, 2 years in Beirut and 2 years. He's currently established in Montreal where he DJs and works as a sound technician.
If today, this music passionate is proud to contribute to the local EDM scene, his dream remains to play in as many locations then he's lived in. Paul says three events marked his taste in electronic music. John Digweed at Beirut's Forum 4 years ago, when he chose to narrow his ecclectic tastes down to a more specific sound: Progressive House. Maus at Aria, October 9th 2004 opened Paul R to Montreal’s atmospheric after-hour scene and nightlife by way of Deep House and Minimal. Danny Howells at Stereo, May 2007,` clarified the pursuit of a philosophy whereby music is subjective and the listener and dancer is given the freedom to make it his own creation; the DJ sets the tone and connects with his crowd through it.
Paul's strength lies in setting the right mood in the right place, teasing the crowds - big or small - and pleasing the ears. Concentrating on groovy baselines, slashing claps and taking his crowd on journeys through Deep- Tech- and Minimal- House. The DJ lives for music. When he’s not gigging or practicing at home, he’s attending Recording Arts Canada learning everything from Studio work to Sound Aesthetics. Working daily on furthering his production skills, building his influences upon Josh Wink, Ceasar K and Laurent Garnier, and cultivating himself by experiencing the world around him, Paul R is.
